Isaac Silva, who took up competitive cycling three years ago after seeing a Bankstown Sports Cycling Club flyer at Bunnings, is tipped to be a future star if he maintains his form.
The 13-year-old Bankstown Sports CC rider is highly rated by his coach Antony Brown and has impressed at his first junior nationals this year.
Isaac, 13, our nominee for the Junior Sports Star Awards, also helps with coaching younger riders.
Isaac, who attends Patrician Brothers Fairfield, finished in the top four at the nationals in several events. His dad Arthur Silva said they enrolled Issac in the cycling program after seeing a Bankstown Sports Cycling Club flyer at the local Bunnings store.
“At his age, he displays maturity above his years and has proven himself amid the ranks of the top riders in our country,” said Brown, the junior development officer at Bankstown Sports CC and head coach, Western Sydney Academy of Sports cycling program.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing young Isaac for the past two and half years as his club coach.
“In my time as a cycling coach I have had the opportunity to work with many riders both young and old and I haven’t met one like Isaac.”
Brown said Isaac leads the charge both on and off the track when it comes to the program as he always helps with session planning. He even coaches some juniors on Monday and Wednesday coaching nights when he has time.

Morrison responds to the question from the journalist by saying it is common throughout professions for payouts. “If you were to be let go, made redundant today, by your news organisation, then I am sure there would be a contractual arrangement for you to have some support when you left that job not by your own hand,” he says. The journalist responds: “I hope you don’t know something I don’t”. (AAP Video/Andrew Leeson)
“Isaac displays the true qualities of an athlete constantly striving to better himself and help others where possible,” Brown said.
