NEW DELHI: Indian men’s team comprising of Esow Alben, Ronaldo Singh and Rojit Singh created history on Thursday as they clinched the Team Sprint gold medal at the World Junior Track Cycling Championships in Frankfurt, Germany. This is India’s first-ever gold in a global cycling competition.
The Indian team defeated Australia in the final, clocking 44.681 seconds to claim the top honours. Great Britain took home the bronze.
India didn’t have had a good start as they were trailing after the first lap by .244 second. Making a solid comeback, the Indian cyclists reduced the gap to 0.030 seconds in Round 2 and then produced a stupendous show in Round 3 to give the nation an apt gift on the occasion of Independence Day by winning a gold medal.
The Indian men’s junior team is currently ranked No. 2, behind Malaysia.
