Outdoor recreation sites such as mountain biking and hiking trails are now available to the public to use, albeit with precautions. Those looking for some fresh air and exercise will still need to adhere to physical distancing and hygiene practices.
While you’re plotting your next trip, here’s some nearby trails to consider, with guidelines from local trail organizations.
Many will be eager to venture to their nearest trails the next couple of weeks, but it’s a good thing to remember that many paths from the winter. Trail are still thawing or are fragile and may be temporarily closed.
“We’re working hard to get the trails ready and opened in time for the traditional kick-off of hiking season on Memorial Day weekend,” said the Green Mountain Club in a news release on Wednesday.
“We’re asking for your patience and your help in stewarding the trails as the hiking season gets up and running.”
Game wardens will be stationed across popular trail heads and state parks to ensure sites are not overcrowded, and hikers and bikers are encouraged to explore less popular sites, said Julie Moore, secretary of the state’s Agency of Natural Resources, in a news briefing.
As of May 7, trails in Camel’s Hump State Park and Mt. Mansfield State Forest are closed.
