This year, the sixth edition of Mountain Bike (MTB) Kerala will be held in Wayanad on December 21 and 22. Latest reports suggest that top cyclists from different countries are expected to take part in this contest this time.
As per a press note from the organizers, the mega biking event will display the skills of biking professionals as well as amateurs from India and abroad. Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS) of the Kerala Tourism Department is hosting this event, along with the Wayanad District Tourism Promotion Council and Cycling Federation of India.
The press note also informed that this year’s race will be held in three categories, i.e., International Cross Country, National Cross Country —Men, and National Cross Country — Women. And this year for the first time, the event for amateurs has been included in MTB Kerala.
The event will witness participants traverse through a challenging 5 km stretch along Priyadarshini Tea Environs at an altitude of 3000 ft in the Western Ghats. KATPS CEO Manesh Bhaskar, while talking about this event, stated that around 13 countries had registered for participating in the International Cross Country. And around 50 cyclists from Kerala and neighbouring Karnataka have already registered for the National Cross Country, both in men and women categories.
Winners in International Cross Country race will get INR 1.5 lakh as cash prize, whereas four runners up will get INR 1 lakh, INR 50000, INR 25000 and INR 20000, respectively. And winner in National Cross Country – Men will earn a cash prize of INR 1 lakh, and the winner in women category will get INR 5000. Winner from the amateur section will get a cash prize of INR 15000.
