City of Sandy to host fundraiser for Fences for Fido at Liepold Farms in Boring
Though the dog days of summer are coming to a close, the city of Sandy is preparing for it annual Dogs Day Out and Corn Cross on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Liepold Farms, 14050 S.E. Richey Road, Boring.
The cyclocross event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with awards given at 4:15 p.m. The Dogs Day Out will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Both events are kid and dog friendly. The Corn Cross will have a separate course set aside in the corn maze for dogs and their owners.
The event is a fundraiser for the dog parks in Sandy and also the Fences for Fido organization.
This year the cyclocross is one of five Grand Prix Luciano Bailey events, so event organizer Carol Cohen is hoping that will inspire a good turn out.
“The fun part of this race is the bikers get to ride through the corn maze,” Cohen noted. “I enjoy seeing new people come to this event and challenge themselves — kids and adults. There’s a thrill to seeing the race and the athletes test their abilities.”

The canine-focused part of the event originated later than the Corn Cross as a way to help fund the dog parks in Sandy. Now, with those parks built, Recreation Manager Sarah Richardson said, “we have some things we want to add,” besides helping out a local cause.
“It’s a fun event to come out and spend time with your dogs at the farm,” Richardson said. “It’s also nice to be able to support a nonprofit that has built (fences) in our area.”
For the dog owners and their canine companions, there will be vendor booths, a photo booth, raffles and games such as fetch and bobbing for tennis balls.
“I love seeing people out enjoying a day with their dog and their family,” Richardson said.
Dog owners are asked to pick up after their dogs and also must keep them on leashes.
